Two, complete sessions from the maestro himself: Big Band Jazz from the Summit was recorded on the west coast in 1962 and features the likes of Bill Perkins, Al Porcino, Conte Candoli, Red Callendar and Larry Bunker. Said to be recorded live, but actually cleanly recorded in the studio with applause dubbed in. A fine solo by the leader on The Diplomat Speaks Second session, Jazz Giants '58 shows how sensitive Lou was and is. Here, he's backing Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Oscar Peterson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown and Sweets Edison. Two rare sessions never on DVD, with all the LP squeaks and pops intact just the way we love them.
