This has got to be the holy grail of rare tapes, from the stellar collection of Dean Pratt. When Benny Goodman left the famed, Louis Armstrong/Benny Goodman tour of 1953 due to Benny's alleged illness, none other than Gene Krupa took over the band. Wow! About 50 minutes of never-issued music with Gene, Georgie Auld, Willie Smith. Charlie Shavers, Teddy Wilson and the rest. An unbelievable Sing Sing Sing cuts out 11 minutes in...and then suddenly goes to a Drum Boogie with the Krupa Trio comprised of Gene, Teddy Wilson and Willie Smith. If that were not enough, the finale is a drum battle between Gene and Cozy Cole, leading into The Saints with Louis Armstrong and the All-Stars. A 25-minute, in-depth interview with Benny himself closes out this once-in-a-lifetime musical experience. Price: $25 because of its rarity, running time and duplication costs.
