THE INCREDIBLE KRUPA BIG BAND: LIVE IN CANADA: 1972
THE INCREDIBLE KRUPA BIG BAND: LIVE IN CANADA: 1972
This is the most incredible Krupa recording I've heard in decades. Coming to us courtesy of our great and good Canadian friend, Andrew Lambe, this is an August, 1972 broadcast live from the Canadian National Exhibition, with GK fronting Guido Basso's big band, much like he did on the "In the Mood" TV broadcast of the same period. Surprisingly well recorded, you'll hear Mulligan charts on "Begin The Beguine," "How High the Moon," "Disc Jockey Jump," a rousing "Dark Eyes," fabulous "Drum Boogie" and a "Sing Sing Sing" that will make your head spin. When you hear Gene doing his take on Elvin Jones, in tandem with Ed Bickert's guitar and Moe Kauffman's flute on "Sing Sing Sing," you'll think someone spiked your Dr. Pepper with LSD. What's even more unbelievable is how ill Gene was at the time, but you'd never know it. Likely the last big-band date Gene ever did, this is an absolute must-have. For a visual record of Gene with Guido and the boys, get a copy of the "In the Mood" tv broadcast contained in our "Gene Krupa/Raw Footage by Request" DVD.
